An Eternity Of Remembering Established In 1934

Fred R. Lewis, founder of Lewis Funeral Chapel, realized the need for the residents of Kitsap County to have a local, modern, endowed care cemetery that wasn't located in Seattle. In 1931, Fred financed his sons Lester and Paul to construct an endowed care cemetery and crematory on the highway which was currently under construction between Bremerton and the north end communities.

In 1940, Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Section was blessed by Father Camerman, and is the only Catholic cemetery section in Kitsap County. This Section is for the exclusive use of families of the Catholic Faith and has served them since 1940 when the first interment was made. Forest Lawn Cemetery’s Our Lady of Fatima section continues to serve the needs of local catholics seeking a final resting place for their loved ones.

Today, Forest Lawn Cemetery has grown to 26 acres of endowed care cemetery that includes, two mausoleums, two indoor columbaria, three outdoor columbaria, and is a place where thousands of families in our community have laid to rest their loved ones.

In 1997, Glen M. Henrickson, having purchased Forest Lawn Cemetery from the Lewis Family in 1992, had long felt that the North Kitsap area needed an endowed care cemetery to serve the needs of the families living in this area of Kitsap County. To this end, The Stone Chapel Poulsbo Mortuary had a new facility to call home, and at this point, Cherry Grove Memorial Park was established. Cherry Grove memorial park is 16 acres of dedicated cemetery land, with three outdoor columbaria, 2 urn gardens, and burial grounds to serve the needs of the North Kitsap and surrounding areas.

On August 16, 2001, Glen M. Henrickson passed away and his son Glen C. "Chris" Henrickson replaced him as president. The Henrickson family continues to operate these cemeteries as a local, family owned corporation.
